Gringgo initially started as CashForTrash in late 2014. Founded by a team gathered during Startup Weekend Bali 2014 at HUBUD co-working space. It was initially created as a platform for recycling aimed at local schools to make recycling easier, rewarding and fun. However the model didn't last, and the team evolved after 6 months of starting.
Gringgo started in August 2015 by some of founding members from cash for trash. The focus was to bring digital technology as a way to improve exisiting waste management system in country where waste management is still inadequate. Innovating in web and mobile technology, Gringgo brought GIS and mapping as their strength to generate better data.
On September 25, 2015, global leaders adopted the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to protect the planet, fight against, and attempt to eradicate poverty in order to build a more prosperous world for future generations. These goals were established as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Inspired by that, Gringgo is trying to fill in the gap by using technological innovation on creating solutions for sustainable development issues. Delivering acts for the environment, providing reliable information, generating opportunities and technical assistance to reduce inequality gaps in society.
In 2017, Gringgo Indonesia Foundation founded as a charity arm to deliver impact based-programs for the community. With the support from the company, Gringgo Indonesia Foundation creates a model ensuring every program is sustainable and creating impact for a long term to the community.
In 2020, Gringgo rebranded with a new logo and new looks. The company made major changes and restructuring. Moving away from the tagline "Trash Tech", Gringgo saw opportunities to expand the development of it's products not only in the waste management industry, but also to serve other sustainable development issues. Together with the foundation arm, Gringgo focusing on how to deliver technology to benefit communities anywhere.
